The forest reserve has held gazetted status since 1906, marking it as a longstanding area of conservation. Spanning 1182.1 hectares, it stands as the largest in-situ conservation zone within the Klang Valley. In 1996, a significant development occurred when it was leased to UPM for 99 years, extending until 2095. This move has facilitated ongoing management and preservation efforts. Moreover, the reserve attained classification as an Education and Research Forest in 2009, highlighting its dual role in fostering academic pursuits and ecological preservation.

FAQs
1. Why is it important to clean up rubbish such as cigarette butts, papers, bottles etc.?
Cleaning up the environment reduces pollution, saves endangered species from extinction, and safeguards water, land, and air resources. A clean environment safeguards biodiversity and ecosystems, both of which are critical to all life on Earth, including humans.
Toxic emissions and pollution of the air, land, and water also harm the environment. Pollutants also harm people’s health by causing cholera, heart disease, cancer, cystic fibrosis, and respiratory tract and eye irritation. Pollutants have killed more people.
2. How do we separate the rubbish effectively and efficiently?
There should be two kinds of trash: dry waste and wet waste. Dry waste is made up of solids and recyclables that can be divided into three categories: plastic, paper, and other.
Wet waste consists of organic materials such as food, dirty diapers, and other “wet” items. As a result, trash from each category and subcategory must be placed in the appropriate trash bag or bin.
3. What activities are planned for the reconnaissance?
4. What to bring for the event?
- Trash Supplies – Bring trash bags, trash pickup sticks, hand protection gloves, a cap, hand sanitizer, and anything else you might need for trash removal to ensure a successful clean-up. Please don’t pick through the trash with your bare hands; you never know what’s in there or if there are any sharp objects. Use something firmer than a trash bag to remove broken glass because glass will cut through it.
 - Physical Protection – Remind everyone to wear sunscreen, sunglasses, sweatshirts or something to protect their arms, covered shoes to protect their toes, and any other types of clothing needed to protect their bodies from the elements.
 - Snacks & Water – Provide snacks and water to all volunteers. Keep yourself hydrated and fueled so that all of your hard work does not wear you down.
 - Weighing Scale – Bring one with you so you can weigh the waste where possible.
 - What to Bring – If possible, bring a camera to take high-resolution photos. If possible, record a video and a short clip about the project and your experience.

5. Socializing and Distancing SOPs are standard operating procedures (SOP)
We are well aware of the situation with the pandemic, which is why we are cautious about volunteering because we expect a large number of people to help. To ensure that everyone at the event is safe and healthy, you must do the following:
- Wear a mask: bring your own mask to the location and wear it at all times.
 - Social distancing: keep at least one metre (preferably two metres) apart.
 - Cleanliness: After cleaning, make sure all of your hands are clean, and wear hand sanitizer.

6. What to do in case of an accident or an incident?
In the event of injury while volunteering, please notify the Location Leader or Assistant Leader who will help with the emergency first aid. If emergency services are needed, the Leader or Assistant Leader will get in touch with hospital / clinic / police accordingly.
7. Where to put the waste collected?
Location Leader and Assistant Leader to bring the waste collected to the nearest local authority designated location and make sure all waste will be managed and placed properly. For all works, it is always helpful to have photos taken of before and after for the clean ups.
8. Role of Location Leader and Assistant Leader
-
Plan and scout the project (with permission from the local authority to do this gathering and cleanup in writing) and project site with assistant leaders, and manage the project with volunteers’ safety and security (including compliance with government latest regulations).
 -
Communicate with the volunteers in group chat with the MHF team (this is also important so that volunteers understand why, when, how, who, and what to do) so that the MHF team can assist with virtual zoom orientation for river, beach, park, and digital clean ups, among other things (to help with minimum issues and questions for the event day as possible).
 -
With limited resources (including gloves, rubbish bags, tools, simple weighing instruments, simple first aid kits, and a WCD shirt (optional)), Location Leaders/Assistant Leaders must also manage safety and logistical prepareness. The Location Leader is the main point of contact for the event. It is beneficial to have a banner for the event in order to register your team’s group name, the year or date of the event, and for photo opportunities (truly need location leaders and location assistant leaders to be resourceful).
 -
It is important to fully engage and involve every volunteer in the project so that no one feels left out.
 -
It’s best to divide the cleanup into 5 or 10 hour slots for the event day.
 -
It’s also a good idea to have the waste clearly managed at the event (make sure there’s enough waste to clean up at the rehearsal) so that it can be properly packed and placed in government-approved recycling locations (please check this during the recce too and get permission also from the local authority if needed).
 -
Immediately following the event on the same day, please provide us with information on waste collected/managed, photos (using a camera rather than HP if possible), and videos with feedback so that we can assist you in loading the information on social media as well. You can do the same thing.
 -
Please feel free to ask us any questions you have prior to the event and as early as possible.
 -
As location leader and assistant leader, it is ideal if you can manage the team as smoothly, effectively, and caringly as possible (for all volunteers who arrived on time and stayed to complete the cleanups, they will receive World Cleanup Day certificates that we will co-sign with the leaders and assistant leaders) (need every volunteer to register with us too to get the certificates).
 -
Wishing you enjoyment in your role (even during this difficult time for all of us) as well as assisting all volunteers in having fun while we hope that clean up can become a part of our daily lives.
We also hope to be waste-free by 2030. Over time, we must train and promote more location leaders and assistant leaders to district, state, and national levels of leadership. This project belongs to the volunteers because we are a non-profit organisation that cares about the community and the environment. We hope they will be more aware of this so that they can assist when possible (even after this 17 September 2022). Everyone is always warmly welcomed. Thank you in advance for your assistance, patience, care, and genuine interest. “Clean Ups Strengthen a Caring Culture and Society in Malaysia,” our slogan says.

9. Role of Volunteer
- Coordination of all activities and volunteers in designated zones, as well as communication with the Location Leader and Assistant Leader for the entire cleanup.
 - Deliver and set up table supplies such as sign-in sheets (you can make your own), pens, maps, a frequently asked questions sheet, a list of emergency numbers and cleanup contacts, and volunteer information sheets.
 - Deliver clean-up supplies such as bags, gloves, water, tools, and so on, or find old items to recycle for use.
 - Post signage indicating where volunteers sign in, where trash is collected, where tyres are stored, where bulky items are stored, and where supplies and tools are returned.
 - Take before and after pictures of the littered areas.
 - Photograph the results: the cleaned area, piles of trash or full dumpsters, group photos of the volunteers, and so on.
 - Volunteers must keep an eye on the dumpsters to ensure that only appropriate materials are thrown away. Monitor the materials that are disposed of in dumpsters and assist in their disposal.
 - Gather trash and place it in trash bags. Place full trash bags in designated collection areas. Return all borrowed supplies and tools to their proper locations.
 - Collect bulky items in pairs or teams and transport them to designated areas.
 - Because many people put trash in recycling bins by accident, volunteers must constantly monitor recycling bins. It is preferable to have recycling bins near all trash cans (if there are). Recycling bins should be clearly labelled with signs indicating the types of materials accepted (otherwise location leaders can improvise).
 - Volunteers must also obtain permission from Location Leaders or Assistant Leaders before gathering in large numbers. It is critical to collaborate effectively in order to support the Location Leaders and Assistant Leaders.
 - Volunteers can also tell us how well the leaders helped out constructively and positively so that they can improve for future clean-ups.

10. Do you provide T-Shirt and Cap?
11. Video recording, photography, and commentary on the event
