Volunteer

We are working with volunteers that are individuals and corporates

In the course of our years in doing community works, we wanted to see how we can help enable easier and better volunteer experience that can be more seamless and dynamic in the selfless activities while it is also fun and enjoyable to participate in. We do the community services with no charges as the foundation wishes to see how it can help more Malaysians to support the “Strengthening of A Caring Culture and Society” in Malaysia. It is the aspiration of MHF to see that it can help enable and be a catalyst to help build up some 5% of the population in Malaysia to be Volunteers by 2030. In times like Covid-19, we are certain that volunteers will also be much needed to help with many parts of the community services while it is also good to self-reflect during this pandemic period.

Areas of Volunteer Services

You can choose whichever area of services you prefer as you can also do it for leisure as you can also move up the volunteer works for more professional involvements. The more people can get involved with community, the better it is as we need to help inculcate a platform to allow volunteers to also offer themselves for jobs as well as for business that is especially for social enterprises. We need to see community services holistically, comprehensively and viably as it is no longer easy just to depend on fundraising from the public alone and doing
community projects alone without managing finances that needs to also pay staff salaries reliably every month. We need to step up to seek for more mature and better workings that will also need to be more transparent, more effective, more efficient and more impactful too. While doing that, it is our aspiration to also collaborate sustainably and synergistically with NGO and community partners too.

Community Services for Special or Disadvantaged People

Community Services on the Environment

Disabled Homes

Disable homes are homes in the community where a disability service provider both maintains and controls a household as well as coordinates the supports for those who live in the home.

Often, disable people are seen with pity by many. Instead of doing that, we should celebrate them with pride and dignity while seeing how we can help them more effectively. We should give them support and courage to live their lives as independent as possible. They are already possibly feeling hopeless in life, and we should not add more to that. We should treat them the same like the rest of us.

There are many ways where we can help them such as giving them support mentally and physically. We can also support them financially in terms of basic needs, education, training and courses. In the future, we will also be coming up with an apps which basically matches opportunities for disable person with a job or a study. This is one of our programs to help them.

Elderly Homes

Elderly care emphasizes the social and personal requirements of senior citizens who need some assistance with daily activities and health care, but who desire to age with dignity.

Elderly care facilities in Malaysia currently focus mainly on the provision of basic living requirements and medical support. They will help the elderly to live their life better and more meaningfully. They provide help and support to them mentally and physically. Among the ways we can help them is by providing basic essential needs and healthcare with positive activities.

As you know, elderly people often have health problems that needs constant medical assistance. We can give a donation or grants for their medical bills so that they can have better care. We can see many are not well supported with basic healthcare in the community homes for the elderly.

Hospice Homes

A hospice house is a peaceful home-like residence or centre where terminally ill
people receive short term hospice care. Each hospice patient will have a comfortable, private bedroom so their loved ones can remain at the bedside around the clock when time is precious.

Hospice care is used when a disease, such as advanced fourth stage cancer, gets to the point when treatment can no longer cure or control it. In general, hospice care should be used when a person is expected to live about 6 months or less if the illness runs its usual course. People with advanced cancer should have a discussion with their family members and doctor to decide together when hospice care should begin.

What we can do to help is that we can come to the facility and giving them positive support. Some of them might already feel hopeless and gave up in life because of their conditions. So the least we can do is to support them positively and give encouragement. We can also help in their basic medical needs especially for those that are abandoned even during this critical period. Bereavement and respite care are also an important area that support and assistance can be made available.

Orphan Homes

An orphanage is an institution that takes care of orphans. An orphanage will care for tiny babies and also older children without parents. Orphanages care for children until they can be placed in homes and adopted.

There are a lot of ways where we can help orphans. We can support them financially in terms of basic needs, education and healthcare. For many of the orphans, school was an unattainable dream. An opportunity they could never afford. But we can make that dream a reality! However, there are many more children waiting for this chance.

Another way you can help orphans are to dedicate a percentage of the profits of your business each month to orphans homes and advertise your support of this project. This would also encourage good habit in community, ‘shopping while giving back’.

Medical Services for Free for Those with Genuine Needs (that cannot afford)

This is one of our service where we are providing free medical service for patients
who cannot afford it. As we all know, medical services are quite expensive and many people and family still cannot afford it especially the low income family.

We are looking for healthcare providers who want to become our volunteer and give free services for those who are in need. For example, they can agree to volunteer and to give up to e.g. 10 free medical services/year to start with for selected patients that can demonstrate that they are unwell as they are unable to afford healthcare services.

While healthcare providers are running their daily jobs and businesses, we also want to try to encourage healthcare providers to give back to the community and
especially to those in need where possible via in-kind workings.

Non-Medical Services for Free for Those with Genuine Needs (that cannot afford)

For this kind of service, we are providing free non-medical services to those who are in needs. We are looking for interested volunteers who would want to perform a free service to those in needs. For example, they can also volunteer to give e.g. 10 free service/year for genuine and deserving individual in need.

We know most low-income/poor families cannot afford non-medical and medical services. This is why we coming up with this initiative to help them ease their issues.

Cleanups Beaches

As we all know, Malaysia has lots of beautiful beaches all over the country. This also has become one of our tourist attractions to visit our beautiful country. However, most of our beaches are polluted and dirty. This has become a concerning issue.

That is why we are looking out for volunteers who want to join us in this movement for clean ups. Our target is to clean up our beaches and make sure they stay clean all the time. We are targeting beaches all over the country, from Peninsula Malaysia to Sabah and Sarawak.

A beach clean-up is also an opportunity to gather fresh data about the state of our coasts and the types of trash that pollutes them. By identifying the most harmful debris items (in the water and on land), we can find ways to help stop them from entering the ocean or being littered again on beaches.

Cleanup Rivers

Just like our beaches, rivers in Malaysia are also facing pollution. The sources of pollution come from domestic and industrial sewerage, effluents from livestock farms, manufacturing and agro-based industries, suspended solids from mining, housing and road construction, logging and clearing of forest and heavy metals from factories.

Rivers contaminated by sewage contain high levels of organic pollutants, and they become breeding grounds for harmful bacteria and viruses that may cause either mass die-offs or reduced resistance to diseases and loss of reproductive ability of fish and other aquatic organisms.

That is why we want to work together with volunteers to tackle this big problem. We must protect our rivers. It is up to us the current generation to make sure our future generation will get healthy and clean rivers.

Cleanup Digitally

As much as we want to clean our environment, we must not forget our personal spaces too! With cleanup digitally initiative, we want to encourage people out there to clean up their homes, offices or factories.

Cleaning up your homes and offices are just as important as cleaning the environment. And you know what the saying says, cleanliness starts at your own home! You may think your homes and offices are “okay” but trust us, once you start digging, you will be surprised of how many clutter you will find.

And especially with covid-19 pandemic, doing cleanup digitally is the best way we can do right now. As going outside would be a bit risky and dangerous, this is one of the best ways to still maintain our love towards cleaner and healthier environment.

Cleanup Parks

A park is an area of natural, semi-natural or planted space set aside for human enjoyment and recreation or for the protection of wildlife or natural habitats. Urban parks are green spaces set aside for recreation inside towns and cities.

Since parks are usually visited almost every day and especially weekends, they are often get dirty and polluted by irresponsible individuals. Most of the time, they like to leave their rubbish in the parks while visiting the parks.

Hence, that is why we want to gather volunteers where they can help to clean parks around Malaysia. We want to maintain a clean and healthy parks so that people can come and have a nice time together.

Cleanups Community NGO Homes

This is one of our initiative to help NGO homes. There are many NGO in Malaysia that will surely be happy to receive helps from volunteers.

We need volunteers to go and offer their help for respective NGO homes and do cleanup at the place. Among the activities that they can do is to clean up the yards and the surroundings.

Since they are NGO, they would appreciate our helps because most of the time they cannot afford to hire a janitor or cleaner for their organizations. So our volunteer’s help is very meaningful to them if we can help do it.

Ad-Hoc Community Activities

Community service is work done by a person or group of people that benefits others. It is often done near the area where you live, so your own community reaps the benefits of your work. You do not get paid to perform community service, though sometimes food and small gifts, like a t-shirt, are given to volunteers.

We are looking out for volunteer who wants to volunteers with us doing ad-hoc community services. Community service can help any group of people in need: children, senior citizens, people with disabilities, english language learners, and more. It can also help animals, such as those at a shelter, and it can be used to improve places, such as a local park, historic building, or scenic area as well.

Community service is often organized through a local group, such as a place of worship, school, or non-profit organization. You can also start your own community service projects with us too if you wish.

Interest Group

An Interest Group is an organization of people who share a common interest and work together to protect and promote that interest by influencing their beliefs.

Interest groups vary greatly in size, aims, and tactics. We are looking for volunteer leaders and volunteers that would be interested to do volunteer works within the selected interest group. For example, sewing group, cycling group, business group etc. and what’s more interesting, they can also earn extra income with this as long as all are done without conflict of interest, with approvals and with honesty. For example, the sewing group can produce a handmade facemask and sell it to customers. That would help the single mother’s organisation to raise money as the facemask is what is needed by many of the public today.

We want to show that volunteerism can be fun and not boring. You can do this with your friends and your family. It’s a nice way to spend some quality time together as well other than just spending time at the shopping malls.
