Lin Xiuqin said in her speech at the tree planting ceremony this morning that urban greening can not only beautify the environment and combat global climate warming, but also shape a better future for everyone.

“The state government is committed to environmental protection and sustainable development, and through tree planting programs, we will build a more resilient and dynamic urban landscape for future generations to realize Penang’s vision of a green and smart nation in 2030.”

She called on the public to join in greening actions and jointly combat climate change.

Penang Island Mayor Datuk Rajendran said that trees in the city can effectively absorb carbon dioxide. For this reason, in this current situation where the global climate continues to warm, he hopes that this tree planting activity will help slow down the pollution in Penang. Temperatures rise, providing citizens and visitors with a thriving green space.

He believes that by planting 100 trees there this time, it will be able to reduce the local temperature by up to 2 degrees Celsius, bringing great relief to local residents and workers.

Participating in this event also included Zheng Guoqing, project director of the Malaysian Humanitarian Foundation, and representatives of 52 non-governmental organizations.
