(Penang News on the 22nd) More than 100 people gathered at the Sungai Pinang Neighborhood Park (Taman Areca) in Karpal Singh Road today to respond to the 1 million tree planting project organized by the Penang King Charitable Foundation and worked together to plant 100 trees.

This event is one of a series of activities under the “Penang Earth Cleanup Campaign”, co-organized by the Malaysian Humanitarian Foundation (MHF), earthday.org and World Cleanup Day Malaysia by Let’s Do It.

Penang Island Mayor Datuk Rajendran, Sungai Pinang state assemblyman Lin Xiuqin, Malaysian Humanitarian Foundation project director Cheng Guoqing and representatives of various organizations jointly launched the collective tree planting ceremony.

Rajendran: Help slow regional warming

Rajendran said that urban tree planting can effectively absorb carbon dioxide. The 100 trees planted this time are expected to lower the local temperature by about 2 degrees Celsius, helping to slow down regional warming and provide a more comfortable leisure space.

Lin Xiuqin said that urban greening can beautify the environment and help reduce urban temperatures. She called on the public to participate in greening actions to jointly combat climate change and make Penang greener.
