Among them, the clean-up work at Pulau Gazumbo and Mukou Mountain is carried out by city hall staff, while the Queensbay coastal clean-up activity is open to the public.

Mayor Datuk Rajendran said at a press conference today that Pulau Gazumbo covers an area of 3 acres and a lot of garbage has washed up on the island in the Penang Strait, causing pollution.

“Garbage from rivers in Penang Island and even Seberang Perai has washed up on the islands along with the sea currents. Most of it is plastic garbage, and the same is true for Mukko Mountain. At Queens Bay, the garbage is mainly in the gaps between the rocks on the shore, which is usually difficult to clean up.”

He also said that in addition to cleaning up related islands and coasts, Earth Cleanup Day activities also include forums, workshops, tree planting, etc., and it is expected that more than 20 domestic and foreign speakers will participate in the activities.
